Dragon Quest XI (Switch) - Early Game EXP Grinding on Slime Island

Actually the location is called "Insula Orientalis" because it's in the east, but it's popularly known as "Slime Island" due to the variety of Slime enemies you can find here.

This can be undertaken after your first visit to Puerto Valor as you need a ship and access to the open sea. You will be wanting skills like Metal Slash and Jade's Thunder Thrust (or even better Lightning Thrust as it misses less).

If you don't have these skills you can simply go to Rectification at a church and reassign your skills for a small fee.

You can get bigger groups than this, I've managed to kill 5 Metal Slimes which gives over 10K EXP. The problem is their tendency to escape battle quite quickly.

You are nowhere near a save point here so you will be wanting to make use of auto-save by trekking to the sea and back periodically.

Sylvando can also learn Metal Slash, just mine wasn't quite ready yet.

Better EXP farming methods open up later in the game. You can fight Metal Slimes earlier than this but this is a good way to
encounter them.

If you have the pep attack Electro Light and your levels are high enough you can get Liquid Metal Slimes which give about 10k EXP each. This will work against any mob enemy so this island isn't needed for that. Once you have that you will want to switch to the method shown in this video:

Here is a tip to farm xp

If you are around level 27ish you should be able to access the Royal Library in the Snærfelt. If you stay on the first level and fight the little pigs on the bottom floor there is a chance you can get 1-2 LIQUID METAL SLIMES and they give about 10, 000 XP each and the pigs arent that strong anyways. ALSO after youve fought a bit, leave the building and re enter it to reset the enemies and you can repeat and farm liquid metal slimes!

I remember a similar place like this in dragon quest 8. i like to call it "Slime Hill".

Quick little tip: Since the slimes here like to combine into king slimes (which are a huge pain in the ass to fight and just generally not worth it), try attacking the bite bulbs. Metal slimes have just as high of a chance to show up while fighting other monsters, and I've found these to be the easiest to defeat.

What I do (in green text)
>Go to Royal Library or Slime Hill(To farm LMS)
>Go with Hero, Jade and Sylvando (To have Pep Ability Electro Light once in a while)
>Have Jade with Thunder Thrust
>Have Erick with Duplicate(Lv.Up learn) and Metal Slash
>Pray those mf don't flee

I keep getting a group of slimes and turns into king slime. Kinda pissed with that.

So the thunder speer slash is the only effective attack here? The metal slashes also just did 1-2 damage and that isn't enough to prevent them from fleeing :/

why kill a slime for 2k? when there's some worth 10k/each

I find Liquid Metal Slimes and they flee when they are low hp...it's annoying
