FTM-500 Changes To APRS?

Are you looking at the FTM-500 as the upgrade to the FTM-400, 200 or 300? There are some changes to APRS and other modes of operations.

This radio doesn’t sound like it would be on the top of the list for best APRS radio of 2023.

Easier way, after clicking REPLY clear existing text by pressing mic C key then type message using mic keys ( old style SMS method) then press mic D key to TX message.

Whoever designed the menu set up on that radio must have been an officer in the military. No need to make some that should be simple, that difficult to do.

I got my license a couple of years ago and my first radio was a FT3D, partly because it had APRS built in. I ended up never using it and just started using APRS Droid with a Mobilinkd. Unfortunately more equipment, but much more user friendly.. looks like this is more of the same.

if you are going to message a lot i setup msg list and msg edit to program buttons. A deletes one letterB is your space button and C deletes everythingD sends the message. works on ftm 200 as well

Here's to hoping firmware comes along to clean up this mess...this is coming from someone with a 400, 100, 2DR, and 3DR, along with a 710ga, D72, and D74, so APRS user experiences are known across nearly all of these and this seems like a rough draft.

On the FT-70, if you hit the GM button it will erase the characters in front of it. Obviously a different user interface but I'd be interested to see if it works.

Hay Josh. This is great. I have an Icom HT D-Star radio ID-51 but i almost never use it as there are no good step by step instructions on how to use D-Star like this so it's a very expensive paper weight...😢 Help please.

FTM300 has the same issue... at least the 500 has a touchscreen; As much fun as it is to feel like a safe-cracker every time I want to enter text, it gets old fast.
