I love that Hercules embraces Hylas at the end

Everyone was waiting to see Hercules's reaction to being shown up. He could have thrown a hissy fit about "that's not how you throw a discus, " or mocked Hylas for having to compensate for relative physical weakness. Instead, Hercules readily admitted he'd been bested, and moreover, *rejoiced* in meeting a kind of excellence he didn't possess and wasn't expecting. He leads the men in a cheer and embraces Hylas as a brother. Hylas showed courage by challenging a demigod, and Hercules showed grace by lauding his new rival. The "non-toxic masculinity" shown by both characters in this scene (and throughout the film) is an example for us all.

I love this movie for so many reasons, but Nigel Green's perfectly British reading of the line "Discus?" is way up there.

Hercules is the son of Zeus. Hylas has some balls on him to challenge a literal legend. Good for him.

A fantastic film I saw as a teen half a century ago. Physically beautiful actors and actresses, gorgeous colors, great created animated monsters without the use of computers and the great Greek Gods!!!

We had to watch this movie for my history class, I had noticed Hercules and Hylas’ relationship right away. (I usually have an eye for those things I guess) And I was curious to see what their relationship was like in the original mythology to see if I was correct. So when I got home and looked it up, sure enough, they had been lovers.

lets be real...hercules bent the rules of discus in appreciation of the kid's nerve and his ingenious try. Discus is out if the throw bounces off something.
