People may not be aware of this but Quake 3 was originally supplies to have characters with different strengths and weaknesses or 'classes', but this was then scrapped during development.

Huge Quake 3 fan. This is probably my favorite announcement of all E3. I don't see why everyone is complaining, this looks awesome.
I don't see how having it class based is necessarily a bad thing. Its just a change people would need to get used to. This isn't supposed to be Quake 3 HD.
People also saying its going to be just like overwatch. I don't think anything they have shown or said about the game has any indication that this is supposed to be team based like Overwatch is.

why couldn't they make an arena-shooter instead of a class-based one? Everyone knows Quake as the original arena-fps, why change its direction? Why do developers feel like they have to accommodate "less-skilled" players when League and CS are huge with PC gamers? Remaining optimistic, but can't help feeling disappointed.

What Quake needs:
- Lovecraftian Singleplayer
- Patented Quake Movement (Strafejumping & Rocketjumping)
- Arena Multiplayer (equal start for all and health, gun & armor pickups)

What Quake must not have:
- Different Hero Abilities
- Sprinting
- Iron Sights
- Spree Call-Ins
- Loadouts

If you include these, you are making another Quake: Wars (Quake: Battlefield), and see how well that went!
