Andy, I’m 71 years old and first went to Old Trafford with my father in the 1962/63 season when I was eight. The stadium then had no roof on what is now the East Stand, it was then the Scoreboard End. What is now the North Stand had a roof but no seating at all until 1966 when the Cantilever Stand was built for the World Cup. You might be interested to know amid the talk of leaking roofs at Old Trafford that the roof on the Cantilever Stand leaked when it was new. I remember very clearly sitting in that stand in the 66/67 season and the season ticket holders around me complaining about the water pouring in. As you will know the stadium has changed dramatically over the years, my point really is that there is always change and very often there is resistance to change. Regards the name of the stadium, isn’t it really called Old Trafford because the area was called Old Trafford next to the Trafford Park industrial Park, I’m sure they’ll probably want to give the new stadium a different name but for me there’s no reason why it still can’t be called Old Trafford because that’s where it will be situated, in Trafford. We support the team regardless of changing the manager or all the different players who have changed over the years, change is inevitable and this change will make Manchester United even more of a destination than it is now, I just hope I live to see it.

I was born I Salford in 1953. Surrounded by dark satanic mills. We lived not in houses but barracks for factory workers, cotton, rubber and asbestos abounded. However, amongst that was a Jerusalem. A green rectangle 116 yards by 78 yards where I saw the United trinity under the wizardry of Busby weave magic. Those days and our Old Trafford will live forever in the memory.
I and my daughter are both season ticket holders. I stood on the Stretford End in the 60’s. She stood there with me in the late 80’s.
I am all for a new stadium. It looks incredible. I have 3 grandsons all members since birth. They only go when I forward my ticket to them. This is not about me. I think future generations deserve better than I had. Let’s be positive! I will die, Man United will not!

Honestly, my favourite take on this matter. Balanced, personal, and optimistic (what's the point of being a football club fan if we can't have optimism eh?). Thank you Andy. You've got a new subscriber. ♥

YouTube's algorithm occasionally recommends your videos to me.

I'm a lapsed Evertonian who's more interested in our new stadium than the football side of the club.

Your videos are excellent. I really enjoy hearing your views and how much you care about your club's roots.

Keep up the good work. Now our stadium is complete, I may visit your channel a lot over the coming years to get my construction fix.

I’m now 63 and first went to OT in 1972 age 10 - it’s funny hearing Andy’s reaction to his first visit to OT. I remember being in absolute awe, wow the grass is so green. Might sound daft because obviously grass is green, but the only time before that I’d watched football was on TV, and we only had a black and white set. You’ve never seen a happier 10 year old. We didn’t win, it was 1-1 against Leicester City, but my hero George Best scored so it was all good.

With regard to the new stadium - I’m in favour, as a club we have to move on. I might shed a tear or two to see the existing stadium go, I walk past it nearly every day and it’s always been part of my life. However this stadium isn’t for me and my generation it’s for my son and grandson, both mad reds. Let’s pay respect to the past in the new build, but let’s build something world class for the next generation - somewhere to make great future memories.

Similar to others in these comments, I’m 65 and have just passed my 60th anniversary of my first visit (Dec 64, 0-1 v Leeds). Having seen the changes to the ground over the years, it has no real emotional hold on me as it has changed so much. My idealised version is that of the Doc’s era, with the Stretford End in full voice. When the Stretford End became seated it became a different ground. I’m all for a new stadium as I think the biggest problem this club has been hamstrung by (apart from the Glazers) is the inability to leave the past behind. It should be celebrated always but it hangs over the club like a weight. Even in recent times when Ole was manager but still calling SAF “boss”. We need a reboot of the club. Just two requests: STOP using the “theatre of dreams” line, and at the new place can the tunnel please return to the half way line. We’ll never die.

I agree with Mrs Mitten. The design is fantastic and Lord Foster is a genius. United will have an iconic stadium that will increase revenue and fund investment in the team. I’d rather redevelop the current OT but that doesn’t seem possible if we want to grow. I’d also rather avoid more debt but this is how big projects are funded

I was quite overwhelmed by the concept initially and thought the response was quite negative in general. I think in reflection it’s quite amazing the thought of walking up to this new stadium but change can be a good thing!

Thanks for educating the fans! Fans need to be grateful the bloody lord Norman Foster design this masterpiece, it will transform not just Manchester, the England stadiums. Clubs will be looking at this concept for the next decade. Yes people don’t like changes, trust me people are willing to fly to Manchester just to watch United, a lot of money is thrown in there. Manchester needs to be bigger to service the world fans.

We need a new home. I love old Trafford, it’s a truly magical place. However we can’t let clubs like spurs and Everton have better grounds than us.

Manchester United needs to be counted among the top three teams of the world in all categories, building this mammoth stadium will do it the world of good in that regard. Not to mention the jobs it will bring along the line. This stadium needed to be built like yesterday!!! Great Job Andy!!!

Glad to have found your channel Andy. I’m not a United fan (Villa actually😂) but you’ve got a good way with words, tone and appearance. Authentic comes to mind but humble.

Great take on the new stadium and fantastic use of local and personal history. I hope that affordability edges back into the foreground in peoples lives, but we shall see.

Cheers Andy, just subscribed chap🙂
