This a review, setup and demo of the Midea Duo 12,000 BTU portable air conditioner. It's a very innovative product, that combines a dual-hose with an inverter-powered compressor. While it's not perfect, it's still the best portable AC on the market.

I'm glad to see more dual hose units on the market as they are much more efficient. I honestly wouldn't mind having those hoses separated – uglier but more robust and flexible.

You can buy a 6 inch, 45 deg metal duct elbow at HomeDepot and pound down some of the coupling neck down ripples so end of elbow fits over 6" plastic exhaust port attachment. This helps efficiency by directing hot condenser exhaust air away from external coaxial hose intake port air.

I just installed this machine and today it is 34 Celsius with 41 humidity. THis machine cooled large one bedroom apartment in no time. I couldnt believe how Midea perfected it on speed 1 you can barely hear it. How long this is going to last I dont know but at 41 degrees in half an hour my apartment is nice and cool. It performs as good as any window air conditioner quite impressed.
I always wanted dual hose AC but didnt want 2 hoses so Midea made it one split hose which is dual hose. So far this is the AC i always needed. Easy to install

I agree the hose is a hassle but once a year to setup it's definitely worth it, We are on our second season of use and I haven't broken any clips and I use duct tape to seal the gaps. It's quieter and easier to setup than the window A/C we had before and turns our bedroom into a meat locker LOL

We own 4 of these this year in the danby version. Absolutely love them but almost every unit has its flaws, one wobbles like the fan wheel is out of balance, one has a high pitch whine when running, one is perfect in every way which ended up by our bed and the last one has a control panel that's very hard to read.

I appreciate you mentioning the clips in this, as someone who has to take it out constantly these clips are a real pain to deal with and I wish they would have put a more effort into the setup. I appreciate them adding the adapter but my old one just slid into place and used the hoses weight to hold it in whereas if the hose on this one pulls on the clips too much they tend to snap back out of place. It is very finicky and I might have to find another solution before my clips start snapping off as many others have.

Aside from that it works great.

Any chance we can get a better look at your wooden panel and the materials used? I'd like to make one as well because I don't like the flimsy plastic it comes with, and your solution is the best I've seen so far.

Any chance on showing how you created the solution for your clamps issue and also the creation of your wooden panel? I think it would be awesome to follow along!

@9:37 - it's a DC compressor therefore it uses half the power of an AC one to get same cooling power/capacity. They are found in higher end models costing $200-$300 more. Worth the extra cost if the AC is in use for 3 or more months per year ( electricity cost savings ).

Great review! Like you mentioned Inverter is pretty cool, unlike normal portable AC's drawing ~1000W consistently on and off. I like how it can scale dynamically, huge energy savings especially if on solar. That hose is huge though

could you make a video or discuss more indepth of the frame you made for the window attachment?

When doing the noise test, the duct should have been connected as specified. Quite a bit of measured noise is caused by airflow through the duct.

My bf bought one and I love how cold it gets. My only problem is the hose is so BIG we can only have it one side of our window which means we had to move our tv all the way to the left and for some reason mosquitoes keep getting in😭

Selling mine.
If you have HUMIDITY, just DON'T
Bad:
1) Stupid hose placement. Didn't want to drill thru my house so I used a 5 gallon Home Depot bucket I had to empty 6-7 times a day. (Clear hose it comes with gets loose & will flood your floor. Check it OFTEN.)
2) Bulky. Actually... it's massive and ugly as all get out.
3) So many cracks for outside air & the sticky tape is also ugly.
4) Wasn't all that great on my electric bill.
Good:
1) The 10, 000 BTU cooled my entire 630 sq. ft cabin.
2) Easy to install.
I just bought the Midea 12, 000 btu inverter U-shaped window unit. Quieter, inverter, space saver, no bucket. WIN!
Never again on portable.

Hi Aaron,
I’m looking to build windows panel since my window is 69 in tall. Could you please give me advice on the materials and brief instructions? Thanks so much!

Great review! I bought this unit a month ago. It cools great but has a major drawback for me. The Dry function or dehumidifier function is horrible. I cannot get it to dehumidify below 60% Please make a video testing this.

Thanks for the video. I landed here because the upright AC I currently have is so loud that I have to watch TV in another room or turn it off and the room heats up again. Likely get one like this next season.
