I've always loved Ian Gillan's versatile voice (at least until he lost most of it on Black Sabbath's Born Again tour in 1983). The Ian Gillan Band's three studio albums and Live at the Budokan are all excellent in their own right. The musicianship was top-notch and flawless and I was a bit disappointed when Ian Gillan disbanded the IGB in early ‘78, to play more basic hard rock with his band simply called Gillan, although it was still interesting even in this more limited context. On the other hand, I have to admit that the Deep Purple reunion in ‘84 didn't appeal to me (even though I saw them live the following year, but that didn't change my point of view😉).
