BMW e46 rough idle and drive

First minute of the clip is the 2002 330ci in it's initial startup phase and the idle it has. Last 30 seconds is what I think is the cause of the engine misfires.. The fuel pump and the low (in my opinion) sound it makes. I would like opinions on the matter. Is it really the fuel pump?

typically fuel pumps done whine at idle as they have resistors in them to stop them from running full power at idle, so the noise of the pump cant be heard by the driver. A common thing to do is to cut the ground wire from the plug(which leads to the resistor) and make a new ground, direct to chasis from the loom/plug you have pictured. The pump will be noisier, but see if it helps and then put it back to normal if it doesnt.

At times the wrong or unbranded spark plugs or coils can interpret a misfire in the cylinders. The fuel pump could be backfiring and may only need to be cleaned. And the power steering could be loose or have a part that is broken, which will prevent fluid from flowing which can also cause a rough idle through backfire

looks to me like you have a bad thermostat. that's why your heat gauge is pinned to the left. its about a $60 part or so, and like an hour job. i'm not sure if that is what's causing the problem but you might want to start there.

I had the same problem, and I gave vanos a few kicks since it was giving me P0011 error code, and the problem solved itself. I intend to replace the vanos and intake boots soon.

Your problem could most likely tend to be the Lambda sensor as it controls the air mixture with the engine. Some times if you do short journeys(like me) the lamda sensor gets all blocked up resulting in the car running rich and misfiring until the sensor can get warm. Hope this helps its what happened to my car.

Have you checked for fault codes i see your SES light is on check for codes as that will be the basis of your solution rather than just trying to guess. Also a dirty ICV valve or MAF sensor will also have an affect on the idle.

Vanos problem or intake camshaft position sensor, misfire too .. fuel pump failures comes with shut off engine...

Did you ever figure out the problem? I have the same issue with my bmw. It blows out of only one pipe. Car runs bad at idle. I replaced the coil pack and spark plugs but it did not help.

Hi ttrinh9. Did you resolve your problem? Same to me....when cold, bad idle+check engine light+sometimes the engine die. to the second ignition the car is running perfect. thank's

I had the same the last morning, it resolved after restarting. I got the code p1349... After that I drive 600 miles without a problem..

I have a similar problem. when I turn on the car when cold .. shakes a little some for a few seconds. and when I drive before stopping at a light .. and do not put more gas. the mpg meter goes up .. could someone tell me what this is .. thanks
