I've already played this several times. The beauty of it !!! This is "REAL" Mozart  I have heard this well-known Concerto in C minor many times played by other prominent pianists and this is really one of the best "interpretation", or even better. and he is only 20 years old. Incredible !!! God bless thee.

There are two challenges in this concerto. The first is that Mozart left no cadenza for the first movement and so it's up to the pianist to recapitulate the ideas and themes of the movement. One could try to be "authentic" taking into consideration Mozart's musical language and the fortepiano for which it was written, or an improvisation of one's tastes and abilities. There are parts of Mao's cadenza that hint at Beethoven. The other difficulty is there is no customary trill at the fermata which signals the return of the orchestra, and Mao does this seamlessly.
The second challenge is the version of the 3rd movement. The autograph manuscript shows that Mozart struggled with the 3rd variation with several versions suggested. As Neal Zaslow writes in his Mozart compendium, "...signs of almost Beethovenian creative struggle and indecision." The pianist must therefore decide which of these possibilities is best suited. Perhaps this is why parts of the first movement cadenza sound "Beethovenian".
If you look at the facial expressions of the violist you can see some approval, but also confusion. The female violist to the left doesn't seem to give a hoot.

I like the viola guy next to Mao, who give glance only in the beginning, then gazing at Mao toward the end.

The cadenza seems very "rich" with regard to the sparse clarity of the concerto, although very refreshing :) Its always difficult to know what makes a deeper effect ... Mao is an elegant and sensitive musician !! Would love to hear him in this type of concerto with Vladimir Spivakov as conductor !!!

in the third movement you can, ,sing,, more in the melody voice, the intonation of this piano is not perfect, the hammers are too dull....
shouldbe done better for you!!!!keep attention to the piano technician when preparing the piano, the hammers.
i also learnd about it, not only beeinc a pianist. ❤
