Why The American Dream Is Dead

Показать описание
The American dream itself, which is that every person has should have the opportunity to succeed and have a better life for themselves is a good dream. And no that’s not all it is. The problem is not that idea, the problem is the path that people take to fulfill that dream, that’s the problem.

1. The Truth
- America is a great nation with a lot of opportunity
- But it also has a consumer culture, that if you are not careful you may end up trapped in what we call today the rat race
- A never-ending race, that ends with you getting the cheese at the very end when you have very little left to enjoy it
2. Here the Problem with the path People Pick
- The path is education ( to get better opportunities )
- And home ownership which is so important to most
- Those things are not wrong, but the problem is the method
Example:
- My dream is to get own a business
- I find a rich man to give me the starting capital, in exchange for 90% of all the profits
- His role is passive, he doesn’t do anything I do everything
- You’ll quickly start to hate the business and resent the rich guy right
- While you could wait longer and gotten 100% of your business and be in a better negotiating position
3. Here is what I learned
- Education is receiving or giving systematic instruction ( it’s basically organized instructions )
- The goal is to learn what you’re being instructed on
- And to be able to utilize it for benefit obviously
Here is the problem:
- College is now the biggest institution that gives this education
- But college has also become a status symbol ( my kid goes to this school, or the kid saying I want to go to this school )
- And it’s easier than ever to pay for college with loans
- Benefit you get what you want, but you did it the wrong way
Alternative:
- Look into community college
- Look into trade school
- Look into certificates you could get to start working
- These options may be cheaper and of more benefit
If I could do it all over again:
- I would have gone to community college to get my gen ed credits
- Start working and saving
- Then if wanted to go to a 4 year school, pay cash
4. Buying a House
- Buying a house is so popular
- More popular than owning a home
- If the goal was to own, most people would not be buying the houses they are buying
The problem:
- You’re buying something with a plan to pay it off in 30 years
- That’s so crazy
- And for 30 year you’ll be in bondage to this thing
- But you get what you want, you just did it the wrong way
My advice:
- Buy the home you can afford, not the home you want
- 15 year mortgage ( not only cuts your payoff in half, but because of the shorter time cuts budget also )
- Be debt-free and emergency fund, make yourself your own guarantee not your job or the government
- Buy a home that’s no more than 33% of your cost of living, this way its not hurting every month to pay this thing
5. Entitle leads to debt
- That idea of that everyone should have a good life, is the American dream forgets the part of opportunities that you can get by working hard
- But a lot of people just believe they are entitled to this lifestyle
- So what do they do
A hard truth to swallow
- Just because we all have the same opportunities
- It’s not going to guarantee equal outcomes
- Some people just work harder or get lucky, life is like that
So the American dream is still alive
- But for those that understand it
- Ps I left because I like it here in my country
