I do trimmer first then straight edge razor for my own beard. Recently started using the straight edge and it helps with a clean lineup. Every barber I go to does the same thing too, without me even asking.

Trimmer before or after but it has to be the right trimmer, for me the andis slimline properly set gives way better lines then most trimmers

Razor is always better but if doing by yourself trimmer is the better option. Easier to use with less practice and no chance of nicking yourself

I've been a barber for 16 years and I've always thought of my razor as an extension of my hand/fingers so I always line up the beard with just the razor I never used trimmer 1st

If you have good full beard hair, as in your hairs follicles are close together and not too much space in between, the trimmers simpler. If your hairs are spaced further apart to where you see skin in between as it slowly grows, a straight edge barber razor will be your best friend.
