Knee Pain from Peroneal Nerve Irritation Treated with Nerve Release & Regeneration Injection Therapy

Danielle Matias, MMS, PA-C, discusses peroneal nerve irritation and the way we address this with Nerve Release & Regeneration Injection Therapy (NRRIT). In some cases, this is done without Prolotherapy because there may not be signs of joint instability or cartilage degeneration that require ligament repair, and focusing on nerve repair is helpful for resolving the symptoms. Each case is evaluated under motion ultrasound and physical exam to determine which structures are causing the pain, numbness, tingling, shooting pain, or other types of symptoms the person is experiencing. Then, treatment to resolve the symptoms is advised appropriately.

I've had this exact problem for 5 years following a total knee replacement. My surgeon ignored this very painful problem and suggested he repeat the knee replacement and also cut the popliteal tendon, which isn't my problem, because I don't need the popliteal tendon anyway. Then he said I need to quit complaining about pain. Five weeks ago a different surgeon did a "knee revision" by replacing the top portion of my bionic knee but once again, ignored the peroneal nerve damage. So, I'm right back where I started. There's WAY too much money in orthopedic surgery for surgeons to consider alternatives to surgery!!!! I shouldn't have to become a doctor to get medical care!!! After 5 years of dealing with this I've concluded the peroneal nerve was damaged during the first surgery, probably by a clamp of some kind. So, why did two different surgeons ignore the nerve problem and decide I needed a 2nd knee surgery? Well, knee surgery pays $50, 000 where as an alternative treatment only pays a couple thousand.

Thank you very much for using the color graphs. I was able to see exactly where I was hurting and get a better understanding on the why. I have a herniated disc L4/L5 and also had a meniscus repair done on the same leg I recently felt that sharp pain. Surgery was back in 2015, been wearing a sleeve or tape for support ever since. Taking medicine 💊 for to numb my sciatica nerve pain. But these last 2 weeks I used a different type of knee sleeve as I ran my 2 miles (Army Physical Test), and suddenly I felt this horrible nerve/muscle pain. It was not the typical knee pain from running or doing repetitive bending. Until I saw this video I was not aware what could had caused the pain, but know I feel more comfortable going to my Dr and referring to this video. Thank you

That might be what I have. Makes a lot of sense. Have an appointment with orthopedic doctor soon. Outer knee pain and numbness in the foot.

I have this exact Peroneal Nerve Damage/Irritation from a fall about 4 months ago, just recently it has flared up and is incredibly painful at times. I believe that I have no other damage to my knee. Strangest pain I've ever had before because it is so sharp and quick.

Thank you very much. I have exactly the same kind of pain and you made me be clear about the diagnosis, but unfortunately my doctors couldn't get it and only advise me to take painkillers.

Really a great explanation on this nerve! Oh I think you've actually taught me what I have. Couldn't figure out the problem for the last couple months but now I think this is what I have! Could it be from using an elliptical machine lately?

Thanks so much for your video, I really appreciate it! I have a question, I have very small disc budges at L3-L4 L4-L5 with a small annual tear, would this cause the radicular symptoms around the knees that radiates to the feet? The pain the intense! Thank you for your time!

Is the peroneal nerve pretty deep within the knee? Or is it more superficial. Is it more running along the back of the knee then the side

Wow, really great content. I’ve been searching for about four days relentlessly trying to find why my right for toes are going numb. I do have a pinched L4 nerve, but I honestly feel a little bit of pain on the medial side of my knee and then my feet go numb. I’m confused because everything I read says the perennial nerve is on the outside of the knee.is there another nerve on the medial side of the knee that could be causing my right toes to go numb?

Thank you! Great explanation!
I'm having this pain and is hampering my running. My L4-L5 is Bone on bone and my L5-S1 is almost there.
Is there strengthening exercises or stretching that can help with release this tension?

I've had something messed up going on for 2 weeks. My range of motion was limited and my knee was swollen. If I bent my knee too much it caused extreme pain and stayed swollen. Last night I was stretch my hamstrings and calves and then fell asleep with my knee off the side of the couch on the floor. Sounds crazy but it felt right... I woke up and rolled over on my back, extended my leg out and up and felt a sudden sharp pain and an ice cold rush went through my knee and instant relief ensued. I know have full range of motion, the pain is gone aside from it being slightly sore, and the swelling has decreased by over 50% for the first time in weeks. Good God what a releief... I assume I should take it easy for a bit. This had to have been what was going on.

Idk if this is what my wife has but its in both her knees, our regular physician says it's gout but we r going on 3 months or better and she's getting worse to where she can't hardly walk. She works on her feet all day and I worry she's gonna somehow get disabled due to this we are almost to the point of not knowing where to go or what to do!!
