Why Capturing Picture of a black hole is really hard?
A Black Hole is a region in space-time exhibiting such a strong gravitational effect that even light cannot escape its grasp. Black holes are born when massive stars collapse in on themselves. On April 10, 2019, the First ever picture of a Black Hole was captured by an International Collaboration of scientists called the Event Horizon Telescope. It was done by creating a Virtual Telescope of the size of the Earth by linking various radio telescopes around the world. To create a single image, more than a petabyte of data was collected and assembled. It took more than two years for the scientists to collect and assemble the data. This is one of the most remarkable achievement in Human History. In the past, it was considered impossible to capture an image of a black hole. There are many reasons behind it. One of the biggest problem is that even the super massive black holes having mass million times heavier than our sun are comparatively tiny in size. Even taking the picture of the biggest black hole in Milky Way is like taking a picture of a DVD on the surface of the moon from Earth. Also, because of their strong gravity, black holes tend to be surrounded by many bright matters. And, because of that it is really difficult to see the object itself. This is why, capturing the image of a black hole is really difficult.
