Carol of the Bells | Christmas Song

Показать описание
Oleksander Koshyts (also spelled Alexander Koshetz), the conductor of the Ukrainian Republic Choir, commissioned Leontovych to write a song based on traditional Ukrainian folk chants, and the ensuing new piece for choir, "Shchedryk," was based on four notes Leontovych found in an anthology.
The song's original folk narrative was linked to the approaching New Year, which in pre-Christian Ukraine coincided with the arrival of spring in April. The original Ukrainian title, which translates to "the generous one" or is possibly derived from the Ukrainian word for bountiful (shchedryj), recalls the story of a swallow swooping into a house to announce the family's bountiful year.
