The meaning behind this song is incredible.

This song represents the Bosnian War. On Christmas Eve, a cello player played God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen on the ruins of Sarajevo, his hometown. He played this, despite the threat of attack from the Serbs. He played this theme, and the dramatic shift to heavy, booming music symbolizes the attacks from both sides. The theme is still heard, but switches from a tone of sadness to survival and power. I highly recommend reading more about it, the storytelling in this song truly is a musical masterpiece.

My younger siblings’ school just did a Christmas concert tonight and for the finale they had the whole school get onstage with glow sticks, turned all the lights off, and had ALL the kids wave their glow sticks in unison to this song. And you know what, IT WAS FRICKIN INCREDIBLE. I wasn’t expecting much but with like 100 kids doing it they basically made a DIY fireworks show and I immediately had to search up the song as soon as I got home.

Also totally not related to this, but that intro, especially at 0:05, sounds just like the intro for Ghost Riders In The Sky. “An old cowpoke went riding out one dark and windy dayyyy”, just try not to hear it now LOL :)
