One big hurdle globally is that the new HarmonyOS version cannot run Google Apps. However, if Huawei can offer an international alternative to it then HarmonyOS can become really huge I think even worldwide. Like how Yahoo was once dominating in the history of the internet but got replaced by Google.

WiFi 7 5G + satellite Harmony OS NEXT (too long name, I would call it "Harnext") devices will be faster and smoother, but if there is no beta for SBC in the ARM space, x86, and virtualization, soon enough available to be tested by final users, and reviewers, to detect and report early bugs and to benchmark it, including emulation for other OSs, it will have a hard sell starting.

I think that the 3rd desktop, mobile and tablet OS should be a multi brand device final consumer oriented OS based on GNU/Linux, or if this new "next" kernel is much better, qith a Chinese based foundation, with several Chinese brands there, especially mobile and computer hardware ones, something like Steam OS did for handheld gaming, and if the kernel is new, adding other companies to the effort of keeping it up to date.

Because Open Source development receives a lot of contributions, and market share is important to any OS, and with low market share, OS are not relevant enough for developers.

Huawei can surpass Apple, or at least inside China, but I think they would earn more if their OS would be also installed (and co developed) by other Chinese brands, at least.

Harmony Os next with no support for apk or Aosp in Global market they will stop sell this units but they will most likely stay on Emui with support for apk. But i hope they can get more app support but thats hard to get developers on board with low sells because of app support and many dont want to install Micro G or Gbox and other solutions to solve this.
