Aaah okay so there are many reasons I want to read this, but if I'm being honest I was extra sold when you mentioned animals.
Agreed on insta-lust over insta-love. The insta-love trope never used to bother me, but now I notice a lack of character development in love interests in a lot of books where they seem to have been created mainly for the purpose of being the love interest. Sorry for that run-on sentence. I don't know if I'd mind insta-friendship or not!

P.S. Your review is perfectly eloquent. You come across as quite composed and structured in your thoughts! Reviews are tough.
Also, sidenote: your eyeshadow is gorgeous.

I loved this. I feel we are on the same track mind. I did not like the insta love. I hope that is squashed. Honestly I’m shipping Roen and Zél. I have a lot of thoughts that I’ll share in my review!!!!

I had a lot of similar thoughts on the book, although I was wanting for a little more character development. I really wanted to like Amari, but felt like a lot of her developments were told rather than shown. And the romance - yeah, I wasn't a big fan of that! But overall I just loved the world and the thoughtful craft Adeyemi put into it. None of it felt expository. The pacing of the plot was fast (save for one spot where I didn't quite understand why they stopped, but mentioning that here would be spoilery). Great review!
