These hearings are a cutthroat landscape. I don’t necessarily blame the system, as I see the value in pressure applied to nominees; they should be tested, vetted, and judged thoroughly.

But let’s acknowledge that some of the lines of questioning, including the framing of the questions themselves, are misleading and constructed in a way to cause the nominee to misstep or to be mischaracterized. That much is clear. For example, @2:41:17, Senator Haruna repeatedly asserts that Mr. Patel refuses to provide an answer, yet he does provide an answer, just not the answer she is looking for. She goes on to gaslight the matter by concluding that he’s not being forthcoming. @3:27:46 Senator Booker does the same after the break when he asks for Mr. Patel’s testimony as a witness. Mr. Patel responds by saying that he wishes for his 3 week testimony to be released in its entirety because it cannot be encapsulated in the short time given in this hearing. That makes sense, yet Senator Booker strong arms the issue by claiming that Mr. Patel is betraying his oath to transparency because he asks for his full testimony to be presented rather than a truncated version of it that can be taken out of context.

Senator Haruna and others also claim that their questions are “straightforward” or easy to answer. They are not. They require context. When someone frames a question as “yes” or “no, ” they are using a tactic which enables them to corner the person in question. Sometimes this works and is justified. It’s an effective tactic in rhetoric and persuasion and in legal battle. However, not all matters can or should be approached this way.

I hope viewers have the comprehension skills to pickup these aspects of the hearing

Seeing senators pick favorites because of party affiliation is disgusting. If the guys a problem then reject him. If not then go ahead with it. Party should not matter in regards to NATIONAL SECURITY. We aren't independent states on the world stage. WE ARE THE UNITED STATES and we get viewed as a singular country. Is there ONE SENATOR on the Left who's considering Kash Patel's ability to perform? This is nothing but a relentless stream of gotcha, yes/no questions designed to manipulate, confuse and trip up the nominee so the questioner can justify his or her already pre-ordained NO vote. "Are you going to stop lying about January 6? YES or NO. " Disgusting.
