Stephen King's 1977 classic The Shining is an incredible first read and reveals even more on a reread!

Somewhere here on YouTube I saw a theory that Stanley Kubrick, not impressed with the screenplay, added his own layer to The Shining by directing it as if it were actually Shelley Duvall's character who was going mad and all the scary scenes are basically happening in her head. I love this book. And now I think I have a new appreciation of Kubrick's interpretation.

I really like your videos. I watched this and the other recent video about Stephen King and what you say in them in many ways reflects my experience and exposure to Stephen King through literature as well as through film.
I hope you do not get too discouraged by low number of views or comments on this or some of your other videos. Your commentary and reviews of books is very good content.

Always thought they modeled Jack on the cover after Warren Beatty. Read this when I was a kid. Hell, I read ALL my King when I was a kid...

Amazing book, King just hitting his stride with it. Also I believe he says he barely remembers writing it as he was blotto a lot of the time (or maybe it was writing Tommyknockers?). Insane, the guy's a born storyteller.
