Did you know the top layer of your gums sits around your tooth like a turtleneck, it's not attached to bone or the tooth. It's called the "gingival pocket" or the "free gingiva". In healthy mouths it's 1-3mm in depth, and it's that space you're scrubbing down into with your floss to make sure it's squeaky clean of food and plaque debris!

The flossing method here is called the C-shaped technique, in this case with a floss pick.

Did you know there are other flossing alternatives to string - interdental brushes AKA proxabrushes and waterpiks are popular as well.

For those of you saying it's painful it's because you aren't flossing same with bleeding. Please floss. I floss everyday but I just learned I'm doing it incorrectly and haven't experienced pain or blood

Flossing shouldn’t be painful, if it is then that’s an indication that you should do more

Hi, i have these floss picks at home, the same one you're using in this video. Am i supposed to just slip the thread under the gums and then pull it out, or am i supposed to use a scrubbing motion while slipping the thread under the gums? Alot of dentist says to scrubbing the string while flossing, and most say it takes around 2 mins max to floss everyday but i find that it takes alot longer 😅

As someone who has sensitive gums that do ocassionally bleed, the pain isnt that bad, and you get used to it. Trust flossing IS worth it

This is also recommended for long floss that you wrap around your your fingers right? And do people actually think picking the floss in and out cleans it good? Like ah yes I will just wash my dishes by putting water on it covering it in soap and dab my sponge on it and it’s cleaned AND NO THIS IS NOT MAKING YOUR TEETH FALL OUT THIS IS PROPERLY FLOSSING and read the other replies in other comments

flossing properly 100% makes a huge difference in your teeth’s health and even bad breath. gingivitis can happen so easily under your gums, if you’re not removing the bacteria by flossing/using interdental brushes once a day :)

Maybe I've been doing it wrong, but when i floss, it never felt like it was going *inside* my gums. It just felt like i was sliding it back and forth on the side of my teeth.

I haven't flossed in years but surprisingly when I did, I checked how to properly floss, yet I had barely anything to floss because of how clean my teeth were...

It's not painful for me, and I don't bleed... But the very idea of it makes me so uncomfortable and I have to really force myself to do it 😭
