This mix is an attempt to capture the vibe of the Big Beat scene of the mid to late 90's, a musical genre that drew it's influences from many different sources. House, Acid, Hip Hop and Psychedelia to name but a few. Some of the biggest names in dance music emerged from under the Big Beat banner, artists such as The Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim.

The mix is directly influenced by the mighty 'On The Floor At The Big Beat Boutique' mixes by Lo-Fidelity Allstars, Midfield General, Fatboy Slim and the 'Live At The Social' mixes by Jon Carter, Richard Fearless & Andy Weatherall and of course, The Chemical Brothers.
Drawing tunes from many genres, era's & styles to form a 'Big Beat Breakdown' if you will. All you need is a set of ears and an open mind and your ass will follow.

I've been brought up listening to big beat: The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, The Freestylers, Fatboy Slim, Propellerheads, Basement Jaxx, Groove Armada, Apollo 440, Evil Nine, Overseer... But only now am I discovering even more of it! Well, I was born in 1997 so I missed all those wicked old school raves :/ I can only be happy that I can find occasional gems like this one all over YouTube. BIG UPS :D

dope mix! bigbeat was in all the racing games and action movie soundtracks back then. It was a fun time to be a kid. this was the first genre I ever loved!

I've been trying to determine what sets Big Beat and Breakbeat apart, and I've noticed a few things. Usually, Breakbeat is set on one beat, with emphasis put on the drums, and samples are obligatory. Big Beat seems to be more flexible as a genre, with the focus ranging from synthesizers to samples. Big Beat also tends to have a more acidic, sometimes even distorted sound to it, with more variation in tempo between songs. Breakbeat usually stays within the same tempo range, and the music is driven forward by the drums, hence why they're called "breaks" in the first place.

Great job on this series of mixes. Nice and diverse with the bands/ artists. I definitely need to track down a few of the tunes that I somehow missed during the 90s.
