Gambu

Gambuh means "experienced' or "expert'. The name is also connected with the oldest form of dance-drama in Bali, now on edge of extinction. The highly stylized Gambu dance style is characterized by shoulder rigidity, stiff arm movement, the upwardly bent movements of the fingers, and expressive eye movements. As well as dance and drama, a Gambuh performance involves music, singing, and the spoken word. The slow, stately and highly detailed movement, the unique form of recitative and singing and the unusual, haunting sound of its orchestra sets Gambuh theatre quite apart from all other Balinese classical forms.
