“Everything is 100% off if you don’t buy it”, love it!

JCPenney tried getting rid of sales and just having everyday low prices. It totally failed because people like being told they're getting a deal even if they aren't

I see this with thrifting. Some people buy SO much stuff because it's cheap, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you need it, and it all adds up

I but food thats on sale because we can always use it. My local grocery marks fresh vegetables down to .29 cents if they're beyond their date

The clearance stickers at Walmart grocery or other grocery stores can be my weakness. It’s very easy to freeze stuff for later and have it go bad/get out of hand not keeping good records of your food inventory. Shop with a budget, a plan, and a purpose.

Mine is food. Costco recently marked down ground beef to $2.50/pound (a fantastic deal up here in Alaska), and I bought 60 pounds of it... problem is it went into the deep freezer... most of the time I forget to pull it out in time to use for a meal, meaning I have to go buy more for dinner. Just dumb.

Sales is a psychological thing

And the stores know it too

I have a family member that worked for Walmart. She told me the sales are artificial. As an example, she said a shirt will regularly be $5. They'll mark it up to $8 for a week, then put it on sale for 25% off, which makes it $6. When it was $5, it didn't move, but when it's on sale for $6, they sell out.

So true, I do my best just not to go into stores until I have several things I need to lower to risk if running into sales

everything is 100% off if you don't buy it. Why buy food then? or a house to live in...

My trick is to ONLY buy things I need if they're on sale, because most clothing stores have sales really frequently so it doesn't make sense to pay full price. Finding something I need on clearance is even better, of course.

Explaining to my wife that a cash back credit card doesn't make the debt go away has been quite the challenge. I think she gets that dopamine hit when that pittance comes back to her and she thinks she got one over on the credit card company.

Lack of control is the biggest issue with individuals. Buying crap for the sake of buying things on sale is stupid. Your life was perfectly ok without that pair of shoes, the nice sweater, and so forth.

If you need a durable good like a fridge or washing machine, do everything you can to wait until there is a sale around certain parts of the year.

Most things that most people buy on sale are non durable items and they are worse off because of it.

When costco marks down clothes $12 or under. Almost a done deal at that point
