Ewan Mitchell is interviewed for House of the Dragon Season 2, the prequel series to Game of Thrones. Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood and set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series tells the story of House Targaryen. I liked that in the season finale I could see inspiration in his performance from Uthred/Alexander Dreymond in The Last Kingdom. He's a fantastic actor and excited to see how he plays out the rest of Aemonds story.

Like many other villains written by GRRM, Aemond is such a difficult character to pull off. It could have very easily went into camp and turned into an anime villain in the hands of someone less subtle or became forgettable in the hands of someone less brave. Mitchell has done a phenomenal job walking the tightrope of keeping the character grounded and believable while also maintaining George's maximalist villain aesthetic. It's such a breath of fresh air to see these complex and nuanced portrayals of villains after the massive disappointment of Euron and Ramsay in GOT.

As much as I think the writers are doing Aemond a disservice in this second season, Ewan proves his professionalism and dedication in playing the role to his utmost. Hopefully next season they can bring it back and give Aemond and Ewan the writing calibre they deserve
