*********************************Practicing and enjoying my friction fire hobby. Let's be realistic here. If you want to just practice in your back yard or do unusual challenges, like in my videos, don't let the so called experts make you feel like you're not learning or like you're doing something wrong. If you're like me and are never going to practice beyond the back yard... just enjoy yourself.... Consider this...No one is ever going to find themselves in a survival situation where friction fire saves their life... If a person has that much skill and proficiency in Friction Fire, then they already KNOW how completely unreliable friction fire is. They will not let themselves get caught, lost in the woods without a more sure way of making fire. Like me, when the experts learned and mastered friction fire, they also made some additions to their EDC... BIC, Fresnel Lens in wallet, Mini Ferro Rod on keychain, etc. Friction fire techniques are just something to be played with, nothing more than a curiosity.

That was new to me, you make it look easy. Thank you David.

Short fast strokes heat up faster because you have less cold surface to traverse that absorbs all of the generated heat. More or bigger isn't always better. There's a sweet spot between effort and result.

Good video David!
The frayed end thing seems like a very important tip to me.
Greetings :)

I'm not sure what type of vodo witchcraft you use to get the roll to not unravel. I've tried the frayed edge I've tried slicing cotton tee shirt on the end to create long frays. I've tried training the fabric with over 100 tightening strokes and in ever case within 10 strokes it all unrolls. I've even coated the outer edge with pine pitch to try to get it to stick together. Any added tips would be appreciated. I love your channel! Keep up the good work. I'll be back at it trying to figure out how to get a fabric roll to stay together. Also, I tried different pressures especially on the back stroke so it wouldn't unroll.

Easier than rubbing two sticks together

Dave, have you ever tried the fire roll using the bottom of your boots ? It should work, right ? Two fairly flat surfaces that have grip. I feel that it could work. Can you set up a video on it ?

it look like you are able to get anything to burn using this method. It just takes a lot of work.
