'I never want to go through that again' - She rode out Ida with husband

Reporter Mike McDaniel met a couple from Montegut who lost everything in Hurricane Ida, except for each other.

They rode out the storm and now wish they hadn't. In addition to having their house destroyed, they spent close to 10 hours listening to the winds howl.

"When I close my eyes, I hear the winds and the rain," she cried.

I cried with her. I feel her pain and her anxiety. I also thank Mike for giving her that hug. I think everybody else who'd seen this would give her that hug too. God be with ya'll.

A real compassionate man! Not just a reporter doing his job, but a man going the ‘ extra mile’ with such a simple, yet meaningful act! Very handsome too!

I hate it when people say “why didn’t you leave?” People don’t realize that we don’t always have the money or resources to leave. It’s not that easy. The thought of leaving can be scarier than the thought of riding it out. You don’t know unless you’ve been through it.

Help is on the way. I live in Louisiana, west of the area's that were hit. I've been watching vehicles with gas, water, food and heavy equipment heading that way all day.

We went through Hurricane Andrew in 1993 and in 2010 we left Miami Florida and moved to Tennessee for good!!! No more Hurricanes for this family these Hurricanes are getting bigger every year! NEVER MORE NEVER MORE!!! We really feel for these folks and we have donated to Samaritan Purses and to the Salvation Army who truly help people in need! GOD BLESS ALL THOSE AFFECTED BY THIS HURRICANE!!!
PLEASE IF YOU CAN DONATE AND HELP THESE PEOPLE WHO ARE HURTING…OUR FELLOW AMERICANS…THEY NEED US NOW MORE THAN EVER!🙏🙏🙏

The way Mike McDaniel showed compassion for Ms Fontineaux reminded me of Sam Shepard during Katrina. Empathy is a rare quality today, especially in front of the camera. His hug was the exact thing she needed at that moment.

My hometown is a small community like this.... goes to show that disasters can bring out the bad in some, but shows so so so much beauty in others. Touches my heart seeing the beauty of Mike McDaniel's empathy and compassion to Annette - what a great reporter. Thinking of Mike & Kevin & Annette.

I love this reporter, this man has heart and soul. Poor couple. We should support them through Go Fund Me, what do you think?

This is heartbreaking and they're just one of so many. This reporter is great. I saw stormchaser video of some of the worst of the winds and it does sound like a train. It looks like they barely escaped.

Heart-wrenching. I hate this for these people . When you realize how much you take for granted and how fortunate those of us are that didn't go through this.

I've been crying all day looking at all of the destruction this storm did to this city and the people who lost their homes.😢😢😢 I've said the same thing I don't want to ever go through this again.

I've been gone for years but I'm coming back, hell..high water..hurricanes(I rode through Katrina in Schriever) until I die. The spirit of this community didn't blow away. Stand up, dust off, and continue moving forward. It's our heritage. Cajun strong 💪❤ together.
