Years ago my daughter and I were enjoying a seaside dinner at the beach on Curaçao.
Suddenly she noticed a bottle that was clearly just washed up and she climbed down the rocks that separated the restaurant and the waterfront.

Once she got the bottle we noticed a letter inside and a certain excitement came over us.
Opening the bottle, taking out the note and reading the message, it was a bit of a disappointment to find that the bottle was only thrown in the sea a couple of days earlier from a spot quite near where we were.
Gone were our dreams of ancient messages from far away places.

But: It did have a return adres, with a request to send the young boy who made this message in a bottle, so of course we did send him a nice card.

Funny thing was that we lived in the Netherlands, near the German border and the boy lived in Germany, in a town that turned out to be less than 30km from where we lived, even though the ‘finding place’ Curaçao is 7850km from the Netherlands!!
