Snubbull's animation really lets the line down || Pokémon Review

As someone who never read the dex entry of these mons, the fact I just assumed Granbul was this tough guard dog really drives home that failure in animation.
It looks tough, acts tough, and so I assumed it was and would have never found out otherwise because without reading the dex, there are no clues.

In the Johto part of the Pokemon series, there was a whole sub plot about a Snubbull running away from it's pampering owner, which culminated in her becoming really buff and becoming a proper trainer for the now evolved Granbull.

I absolutely adore snubbull design wise and dex wise. It’s such a shame Pokémon forgot about her because she’s just such a great Pokémon imo. Deserve more love

Also despite being an English Bulldog, you cannot get one in Galar, which makes me grumpy.

Maschiff takes a similar concept and pulls it off with proper animations. You see Maschiff from a distance and think it looks intimidating and tough, but once you're up close, you see the awkward, hesitant look in its facial expression. Then its Pokedex entry confirms how it's trying to be intimidating but presents a face that no one takes seriously.

I guess Granbull is Maschiff's opposite; It has a softie personality but comes across as intimidating without even trying, to the point that few real world people actually know its true nature.

I remember the episode of the Johto anime with an eccentric rich lady and her snubbull. It evolves while fighting team rocket.

My sister loved Snubbull when we were kids and she has an English Bulldog now. It certainly fits Granbull's description: He does look kinda scary but in reality he is a coward who runs behind me or under the table as soon as he hears anything louder than a clap...

Also they should be part poison type, they stink more than any other dog I've ever had lol

i always have a soft spot for Snubbull and Granbull. i love that one of the mons Game Freak decided to retcon into a Fairy type is this giant tough dog with sharp fangs longer than its head is tall

I'll never forget seeing Snubbull and Marill in that little short before the first Pokemon movie. Seeing new Pokemon at the time blew me and my friends' minds.

What I get from Granbull is I remember one of the Pokedex entries saying something like It only wants to play, but because of its menacing appearance, other Pokemon run from it.

Granbull's line are Pokemon that the more i look at, the more i love them. And considering my nostalgia for Snubbull WAAAY back from the First Movie's Pikachu short and the anime where a pampered one follows Team Rocket around: it made me like it more as the 2nd/3rd Johto Pokemon we saw before Gold and Silver came out.

I feel like granbull could be a candidate for a new evolution

They even miss this in the anime where the gang help a rich Snubbull owner realize her Snubbull doesn't want gourmet food and pampering but normal pokemon food and to learn how to battle.

I think it woulda been better if the line was described as wanting to be fierce and strong but human see them as too adorable for fighting. Snubbull trying to protect their owner but they're so small, humans just take care of the problem instead.Then Granbull can be framed as tough and willing to fight but will cry and run to their owner when they lose due to the coddling they got as a 'puppy'.
