Показать описание
The Australian Army celebrated its 121st birthday on Tuesday, 01 March 2022 with a ceremony at Russell Offices in Canberra and at Army bases around Australia. Army's birthday is an important occasion for all soldiers who have worn and continue to wear the Rising Sun badge.
In 1901 the Commonwealth Military Forces, later to be called the Australian Army, was formed through the amalgamation of the Australian colonial forces following federation. Since then, Army has served the nation at home and abroad in war and in peace.
Australian Army personnel posted to the Canberra region took part in a ceremony at Blamey Square, Russell Offices, where Chief of Army, Lieutenant General Rick Burr, AO, DSC, MVO, joined Army Headquarters' youngest soldier, Private Jarrah Johnson, in cutting a cake to mark the occasion.
Lieutenant General Burr also presented the Jonathan Church Good Soldiering Award for the years 2020, 2021 and 2022. The Jonathan Church Good Soldiering Award recognises five selected Good Soldiering recipients every year, from all areas across Army, who demonstrate strength of character by exemplifying Defence values, Army teaming behaviours, and excellence in soldiering by fulfilling the obligations of Our Contract with Australia. The senior award recipient(s) each year becomes Army's 'Good Soldiering Ambassador'.
