Since 1952, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington has produced a weekly televised Mass for those who are homebound. Our 30 minute Catholic Mass is broadcast from the Basilica’s Crypt Church and is celebrated by priests from the Archdiocese of Washington and the Diocese of Arlington, featuring sacred liturgical music with a Cantor & Organist from the Choir of The Basilica. The Christmas Mass and the Easter Mass are special one-hour broadcasts celebrated annually by the bishops of the corresponding diocese.

The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington D.C., is a Catholic Church, a National Shrine dedicated to the Blessed Mother, patroness of our nation. It is a place of prayer, worship, pilgrimage and reconciliation. The Basilica invites people from across the country and beyond to share in the Eucharist’s ever-living presence.

Thank you for this Mass. I appreciate it. I loved the Homily and the lesson about understanding our time in this world and the peace that can encompass us when we acknowledge and surrender to God. I also loved the closing exhortation to those of us home bound to know that Jesus knows intimately all that we are going through and that by his stripes we are healed even as we bear our own crosses.

The hymns in Latin were so uplifting and reminded me so much of my late Dad who was a devout Catholic, Chorister, Lay Reader etc.

He loved singing in Latin and I remember him singing the Magnificat solo in Church. Regina Caeli was also one of his favourite as was Handel's Messiah which he frequently played at home on his turntable. So many memories flooding in just because of the singing.
