Following the disappointment of October 22, 1844, some individuals among the Millerites came to a new understanding regarding the meaning of the 2,300-day prophecy. Instead of interpreting it as pertaining to the second coming of Jesus, they began to see it as referring to Christ's work in the heavenly sanctuary.
This shift in interpretation led to the realization that the cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary was the fulfillment of the earthly sanctuary's purification. To better grasp this significant truth, they examined the parallels between Daniel 7 and Daniel 8. In Daniel 7, there is a sequence of kingdoms leading to a judgment in heaven, while in Daniel 8, there is a sequence of kingdoms culminating in the cleansing of the sanctuary.
These parallels served to illustrate the nature of the cleansing of the sanctuary as the pre-Advent judgment. Thus, the focus shifted to exploring Christ's ministry in heaven, offering a new perspective on the events following the disappointment of 1844.
Sunday lesson : The Heavenly Sanctuary.

The Sunday lesson goes into the concept of the heavenly sanctuary as outlined in the Scriptures. It contrasts the earthly sanctuary built by Moses with the "true tabernacle" in heaven, to which the earthly sanctuary pointed. Following Christ's death, the typical services of the earthly sanctuary lost their significance, emphasizing the importance of the heavenly sanctuary as the sanctuary of the new covenant.
The lesson explains that the sanctuary in the wilderness served as a model or pattern of the heavenly sanctuary, with its services foreshadowing God's plan of salvation. Every sacrifice offered in the earthly sanctuary symbolized Jesus' ultimate sacrifice on the cross, providing forgiveness and liberation from sin's condemnation.
Furthermore, the lesson highlights Jesus' dual role as both the sacrificial Lamb who died for humanity and the High Priest who intercedes for us in the heavenly sanctuary. His ministry in heaven ensures salvation for those who come to God through Him, breaking the grip of sin on their lives and offering freedom from sin's condemnation and control.
