one thing I learned is to treat the unknown people like your friends you talk to daily. I always found it easy to make my friends laugh, because they reflect my personality and I'm comfortable with them. So, if you're talking to somebody you don't know that well, just ask yourself; "what would I say to ____ ?"

Great advice! Remember: comedy is a numbers game. The more jokes you attempt, the more laughs you'll receive. Even professional comedians are happy with a 50% success rate.
