MORE ABOUT KITKA'S SEPTEMBER 2024 CAUCASUS CHORAL CONNECTIONS PROJECT

Kitka has been honored with invitations to perform and share our perpectives on polyphonic practice at three prestigious international singing gatherings in Georgia this September: The International Folk Festival "Sakartvelo" in Ambrolauri (Racha), Korenish (Lechkhumi), and Tbilisi, hosted by the State Folklore Centre of Georgia; and the International Symposium on Traditional Polyphony presented by the Tbilisi Conservatoire.

These main stage events will offer Kitka once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to learn from and collaborate with some of Georgia's finest choirs, as well as other brilliant traditional harmony ensembles from around the world.

Following the Festivals and Symposium, Kitka singers will extend their stay to engage in further song study and cultural exchange experiences in Eastern Georgia. In the hills and valleys of Kakheti, we’ll study the intricately ornamented singing styles associated with this vineyard-laden region at the height of its grape harvest season.

A bit further north, in the Pankisi Gorge bordering Chechnya, we will learn sacred and secular music from Aznash Laaman, a women’s ensemble that amplifies the voices of the region’s Kist ethnic minority. This is one of the few places in the world where women's voices lead Sufi Zikr trance rituals calling for peace and divine communion.

Our Sakartvelo Festival hosts are providing generous local hospitality for Kitka's singers for the first segment of our trip. We were counting on a cultural grant from the US Embassy in Tbilisi to cover the remaining costs of the project, but sadly our funding was not approved.

So today, we are turning to you, a cherished member of Kitka’s village, to help us raise $10,000 to cover remaining international travel expenses and artist fees for our 10 vocalists, as well as honoraria for the folk song masters with whom we will study.

We have curated an enticing assortment of Georgia-themed tokens of thanks for those who contribute towards our Caucasus Choral Connections campaign. Please consider making a tax-deductible gift that is generous within your means to support Kitka on this extraordinary journey.

We look forward to returning from Georgia with a feast of new songs and stories to share with you in the seasons ahead.

In harmony, gratitude, and excitement,

The Women of Kitka
Charlotte, Erin, Kelly, Kristine, Janet, Katya, Maclovia, Shira, Stacey, and Talia

I think I first heard you in about 1990? Wore out cassette tapes and lost CDs in divorce and so many moves. So glad you will continue to learn and grow. Namaste 🙏🌱🌿💙
