I know this sounds stupid, but I’m so sad about this, finding your channel has been one of the best things for me, being an older former skater who can’t skate any longer. All I can say is I’d do anything for you to be healthy again.

Dude, Dan, I am so sorry to hear about your lyme disease. I went through this journey myself, it took 3 solid years of treatment before I got relief. It completely destroyed my life. But I’m a living example there is hope. Aggressively treat this disease like it’s your F/T job. Lyme literate doctors are critical, antibiotics are important but so are a host of other things. Diet is huge, cut all sugars, including alcohol. I’ve learned a lot along the way, I know YouTube comments isn’t a great way to chat back and forth but my socials are connected here if you ever want to reach out and just talk to someone who’s been there. Keep up the positivity and sorry again you’re having to deal with this.

Hang in there, Dan. Pulling for you, bro. You're the fucking man and you will continue to be the man.

Your skate videos are fun, comforting and educational, even when you aren't skating. You are an expert at this. You already have a career in skate media; you don't need construction or physical labor. Grow this business whether you are skating or not! We will still be here loving it!

Always inspired by how hard you skate despite your injuries and health problems. I am always taking my health for granted but your videos always give me perspective, especially when you were living in your car... Respect !!

This should be a message to all to prioritize your health while you’re young. Play the long game, be able to skate into your 80’s

Sorry you're going through this, Dan. I'm normally a lurker but just wanted to chime in and say how much I enjoy your videos and who you are as a person.

I don't have any experience with Lyme, but I have been dealing with chronic illness since 2016. Brain fog is my worst symptom but I also struggle with food sensitivities, fatigue, and joint pain. Have seen a few dozen doctors at this point and have found ways to manage my condition. But I'm still 'undiagnosed'. I actually appreciated the doc that was straight up and told me "whatever you have we might just not have a name for it yet".

I know you're a smart dude but based on my own experience, watch out for quacks trying to sell you expensive supplements and questionable procedures. After I couldn't get any answers via traditional medicine, I was desperate and ended up seeing some "functional medicine" doctors. I believe some of them can be genuinely helpful but IMO, there's a lot of pseudoscience out there. I've been told all my problems are due to anything from heavy metals to mold growing in my body to pH imbalances. They wanted me to take lab tests that were hundreds to thousands of dollars in addition to pushing their favorite (expensive) supplements.

Again, not saying that all of these people are trying to take advantage of others. For many of them, I think they truly believe everything they say. But when I was desperate and without answers, it was quite tempting to buy into the pseudoscience. Some of these people have good advice but all too often I felt taken advantage of.

There are clearly lots of people dealing with chronic illnesses where traditional medicine has no answers. Many of us (myself included) have had to deal with doctors telling us this shit is probably just all in our heads. But it's clear there is something physical going on with our bodies. It's been awful seeing people dealing with long COVID, but it helps prove the point that there's still so much we just don't have answers to. I'm hopeful for ongoing research, though.

To offer some hope, back when I started experiencing symptoms, my fatigue was so bad that skateboarding or biking was no longer possible. Through a lot of experimentation (mainly diet and some conventional meds), I'm back to skating and living more normally again. Glad to hear you're taking the time to address this and get some help. This shit sucks and I really hope you get better soon. We'll all be here for you either way, though.

Keep on rollin! So much good content. Even if you take a back seat to filming others, your narration and personality make your vids what they are.

Wishing you all the best mate. I've been terrified for the last four years after finding I had lung cancer. I'm a year and a half after my chemo finished, but recovery is gonna be long and painful. Hang in there 💪💪💪

One thing I wanna say is I appreciate that Dans videos include these really long cuts in an era where all content seems to move at hyperspeed!

Also that comment about "what if this is my last hurrah" really resonates. I think this is something a lot of pros deal with as they get older and I don't think it's easy for them. Many find other passions and projects and stay invovled in the skate community (like nuge and his spot burger she wrote!). never a pro myself but as a lifelong skateboarder ive found that as i get older I find new ways to challenge myself on my board and the skating doesn't get worse, it just that the focus changes. these are problems many people deal with and your honesty is beautiful.

I think you'll be able to ride your board for as long as you live my dude. Sending love

I just recently found your channel and instantly felt connected because of your love for skating and being close in age. Few years ago I had a freak health issue that made it seem like I’d never skate again, something that I’ve done seemingly my whole life. When you were talking about getting emotional it brought me back. You’ll get past this shit dude and be sliding those long back tails into your 40s! <3

Hey Dan, just started skating at 36 and found your videos! I've had Lyme for 8 years now. Lyme is rough but you seem to be taking it head on which is great 💪and there is hope for a cure. I'll send you research if you'd like. Keep skating!

I really feel for what you’re going through, having lived for several years under the fear of losing something I loved very much, so I just wanted to say thanks for all the stoke that you have shared with or inspired in others. You are a unique and undeniable presence in skateboarding, and I believe in my heart you will keep skating for many years to come. Perhaps not in extended sessions, but someday you’ll wake up, realize you are 50, and your feet will still be on a board doing some ridiculously creative and joyful shit. Who knows, maybe you’ll end up managing a team like Deville does? 🤨

Take care, my man. The universe has seen all the good that you’ve sent out into it, and it will find a way to give that back to you. 💜🛹💙

Every time I’ve gotten pulled away from skating due to life, you and your videos have been the reason and inspiration for me to get back on my board. I wanna say thank you and also send my words of encouragement. I wish you the best getting through this and anything else you are faced with. Your strength and drive is more inspirational than I can explain. Thank you Dan

Sorry to hear this Dan! I mentioned before to check out the musician Ren, he was misdiagnosed and Lyme Disease went about its merry way for a long time..his achievements with the disease...undiagnosed, might be a huge inspiration to you, he's also top tier..and super positive like yourself.
