A real estate agent refers to someone who has a license to sell property in their area. To become an agent, you have to go through real estate classes and pass the final licensing exam. It is the starting point of getting into the real estate industry. A real estate broker is someone who takes their real estate career beyond the level of an agent. A broker has pursued further education and passed a more advanced licensing exam.
The licensing of a real estate broker, therefore, gives them an edge over an agent.
Experience
A real estate agent works for a brokerage firm or a sponsoring broker. They are paid a commission when the real estate deal is completed. On the other hand, a broker owns a real estate firm. They can work independently or even hire real estate agents to work for them.
