to get red of a adult dog/cat u need to keep ageing them up till it dies

When I sold my kitten the game f*cked and now the box for it has been sat empty in the hallway for a few in game days now and I can’t save, build or do anything really as it says “sim leaving household”. I don’t want to loose my progress as I played for a few before this happened and I didn’t save at any point.
