Half-Life 2 Alone

This mod made me sad. So you should definitely play it.

Note: Music in the intro and the rest of the video is from the mod itself. I think these tracks are from Portal, but slowed down.

Gordon if he was sent to Earth far too late. Everything plucked clean, the sky permanently smogged into darkness from air exchange, nobody is left, and the combine have pulled out, having accomplished their goal.

while this mod has no jumpscares - it's just really eerie and creepy. It's truly like Half Life 2 but gordon arrived far too late to save everyone and the combine are already gone. So now gordon is just wandering a desolate and bleak world of nothing.

You mentioned the mod feeling like an analogy for depression, and I agree.

In fact, part of the reason I fell in love with the beta is because I have struggled on and off with depression my whole life, and the beta maps and themes feel like personifications of my thoughts that I couldn't describe in words.

Feels like a cursed alternate timeline in which something happened to the G man like he messed up his timing and accidentally sent Gordon too far in the future in which the Combine have already either killed off the last of humanity or abducted them and sent them to their home world to work for them and Earth and City 17 has just been left empty, deserted and abandoned. The air and sky is dark, strange, grim and its almost like the very sun itself has had most of it's energy and light drained from it just like all the oceans have had their water drained from them and you can no longer tell if it's day or night. Gordon after thinking he's saved the world from the events of Half Life 1 wakes up all alone in the dark, nobody is around and even the G man has vanished and is seemingly no longer contacting him. No matter where he goes, it's dark empty and again; Hes all alone in this cursed dark future. No life, no hope no nothing.. And he's forever stuck wandering this dead cursed Earth all on his own having no idea what's even happened to it.

My theory on this : This is a dream created by Gman for Gordon, before gman drop him in half life 2 he made him a dream that he can go through the entire story area, until he is awake gordon already know where to go and what to do

The scary thought that came to me when watching wasn't that the Combine succeeded and then left, but that something came along that not only 'got' humanity but the Combine too.

It's a testament to Half-Life 2's incredible atmosphere that only a little change immediately turns it from bleak to desolate. Neat stuff, and thanks for sharing it!

I'd like to image this is what city 17 is like during episode 2, only with the citadel still around. Everyone has run off already, while Gordon is exploring the remains.
