Trained for a CIA gig in the Stan with the Defender. Good stuff and always suggest for urban living.

Love my Surefire LEO and holster. Perfect EDC.

Very well summarized! I would also add that it should have instant access to strobe that you can turn on in less then a second. A lot of "tactical flashlights" have strobe, but it cannot be easily accessed. (E.g. turn on the light with the tailswitch, then tripleclick the side switch... good luck with that in a stressful situation)

What's the least amount of lumen you have to have?

Look at Olight brand tactical lights! Cheaper than surefire and as good or better! I own several! Be sure it’s a cree led or better!!!! Anything else is junk!

More lumens equal more light, but not necessarily any brighter.

Too much power and it reflects back at you.

When you are looking at the lumen count the seller has, make sure you read the specs. Most of the ones that have 3 or more modes, that highest setting can only be used for a max of 5 minutes.

Also consider candela. I have 400lms 36, 000 candela SolarforceL2M short tube with M3 Head and special single mode drop-in that appears to be brighter than my 1800lms light when directly shined into the eyes.
