One of the weirder creatures from the 1981 Fiend Folio for Dungeons and Dragons Advanced 2nd edition, I have updated and expanded the creature type with six variants you can add to your 5th edition 2024 game right now.

If anyone else grew up watching animal documentaries, like I did, this is the logical fantasy next step when you know about how army ants in Africa operate like one creature. They don't even have nests. They create living balls of pincers and send out tendrils in all directions looking for food. After a while he entire nest moves and repeats

I can see this as a creature used by an evil druid, or nature wizard as a distraction to escape or weaken the party members.

I like that these could be formed from the spirit of a Druid unjustly slain. A weird Druid/Revenant thing sounds amazing 😂

This creature reminds me of the golem-like creature from the 2003 movie Bone Snatcher, where a colony of undiscovered ants uses human bones to take a bipedal form for transport purposes. Creepy.

Put an SCP Foundation spin on it and you have a perfect horror story arc. Or you could have one made up of giant centipedes in a Chult (Jungle) like setting to challenge high level groups. Great choice AJ.
