I'm back with some more insights for you on Schumann's 4th Symphony, which was actually his second. Schumann was so encouraged by the success of his 1st Symphony that he decided in his 4th Symphony to go really further in the form. It was unfortunately not very well received. Probably because it was not very well played. It's a very difficult symphony to make work. Later on Schumann revised it and this is the version we present you in our recording. I'm also delighted to introduce my favourite parts to you. Listen to my new video message to learn more about the highlights of this work.

Marvelous performance . When Maestro Yannick conducted this piece, here in Philadelphia ( our music director ), I was totally overjoyed & thrilled to be in a live performance of this wonderful work. Several weeks after this performance, The parts to certain movements stayed in my head . I only wished Maestro Yannick would Record a cycle of all 4 symphonies again, like our past music Wolfgang Sawallisch, who did this when the Phila. Orch . moved into their New Home - The Kimmel Center For The Performing Arts.

Maestro, be precise, please.
There's no solo cello part in Romanze, cellos are divided into 2 groups. There's only violin solo part.
And Schumann wasn't the first to write a symphony with movements, played attaca. Mendelssohn's Scottish symphony was written earlier. The final version of it was finished by 1843, the final version of Schumann's symphony was finished by 1851.
Besides, we know from Clara Schumann's diaries, that Mendelssohn had played his Scottish symphony for the Schumanns in 1840, so it could be a kind of influence of Mendelssohn on Schumann, but not opposite.
And it can't be called 2nd, because the first version of 1841 was called a Fantasy, not a symphony.
