I am not sure I agree. Because I had ulcerative colitis and I rebuilt my gut microbiome. In the last year or more I been blending a fruit smoothie berries mainly with added inulin and psyllium husk and my gut is healthier than ever. Many forms of fiber and added polyphenols and it’s working great.

I was taught in grade school, that our first organ of digestion is our mouth, digestive juices etc.. I never bought into the smoothie fad. At 73 ..excellent health, 120/70 BP, no meds still lifting heavy at the gym etc..

I juice a concoction of beets, spinach, cucumber, garlic, ginger, carrots, bell pepper, jalapeno, celery, and I throw in an apple for taste (and boron). In addition, I eat a lot of veggies whole. I have been doing this for twenty years and have reaped only benefits. I am 79 years old, bench press 215 lbs, and carry a 35-pound backpack 6 to 8 miles in a day.

A blender does not remove any fiber. Maybe he meant a juicer?

I dunno. I always read that juicing separates the fiber, and gives you a massive sugar spike. Blending keeps the fiber, even if it's pulverized, and helps digest the fruit. I always feel better after blending regularly (smoothies). Can't say the same from juicing, which causes a sugar crash.

Makes perfect sense. The people who I know that live the longest are old school eaters. They've never used a blender. They eat meat and potatoes, fruits, veggies but they don't overdo it, it's like they know without knowing how bad oxalates are for you, so there is a balance there. And they very rarely eat out and typically order outside food as a treat -- only once a week. And they love desert, but just a little bit. And they never eat after that tea or desert until about 16 hours later. If you ask them, why do you do that? They will look at you crazy. There is no method or anything to it, it's, that is how they have always eaten, lived. Many of them are raised with nothing. So there was not extra stuff to eat after the last meal of the day. And they use 100% real butter and they also walk everyday. And maybe sleep is the most important. They always sleep more than 7 hours. And they have faith and a connection to God, Source, Love, God is Love, Jesus, God is Light, Grandfather, Energy, whatever name, they believe in, and they spend personal time in that prayer, meditation, private connection to that Higher Power everyday, but they never tell others about their practice, and they usually have old material, old prayers, etc., worn out over time. They are Spiritual, but in a humble way, it's like they don't know, but you could feel their Energy, their Light, their brightness and we all know them. They have been in your path and usually closer to you than you think, and now as you reflect on it, you are like, yeah, my so and so! And Spiritual has "ritual" and that is their practice, and when you ask, they tell you to practice and discover your connection and that's your special connection. That daily personal devotion gives them such ease, they may not be perfect, but they let things go so much faster so it doesn't fester, and they have way less stress and life stress especially inner stress, so that doesn't kill them either like it does most... and so on...and on and on...

Title is completely wrong- he didn't say that blending is bad. JUICING is bad because it doesn't include fiber.

Back 70 years ago, when we ate more real food, my Mom would offer something at the table and would tell us to eat it because it was good for our liver. Joking, I am sure, but maybe she was on to something and didn't even know it. (Everything was made from scratch and supremely delicious.)

For the past 10 years, I have been making my morning smoothies in a Viwamix. After previously hearing Rob's rant in a another video, I now run the Vitamix for 10-15 seconds @ '1' instead of 30 seconds @ 10". I refer to it as my 'salsa' smoothie because I no longer drink my carbs. I also add a shot of raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar as a prebiotic.
My gf calls it a 'vomit' smoothie because to the appearance and taste. 🤑

Just eat or blend your fruit. Enjoy it the way you want. If you're worried about the fiber content, have a glass of inulin, konjac or psyllium husk powders prior to drinking your smoothie and stop worrying about what the science says and let nature do it's thing. Overthinking and worrying are the thieves of joy.

Out of everything I have ever done, juicing has made the greatest positive impact on my health by FAR!! I feel way better and energetic when Juicing.

He needs to prove this conjecture that blended fibers are ineffective. He just says that and we're supposed to believe it. Second, as a matter of fact, the blades break down cell walls from vegetables so all the nutrients are released plus the fiber that would otherwise just pass through your digestive system without the nutrients. same reason why some vegetables need to be cooked.

Everyone is trying to wise up, and mess peoples minds for some benefits, best is to see how your body reacts rather than listening to videos your body will tell you if good or bad...

Right. I used to throw some spinach/kale, blueberries, ice in my cheap $20 craigslist blender and enjoy the resulting thick, pulpy semi-fluid. I'll NEVER do that again; instead I'll grind the spinach/kale, blueberries with my teeth into a thick, pulpy semi-fluid. 🙄

Yeah. Like someone said here. Chewing is essentially blending the food. What are you talking about? This all sounds less than scientific. Actually, I remember in the past I went on a juice and vegetable fast. Blended the whole fruits and or vegetables for about ten days. Mixed with some spring water Felt (and looked) great. Plus there was obviously lots of fibre involved which I could tell by how solid the outcome was. If you get my drift. Yeah. Sorry this doesn't make sense. This guy is saying you also shouldn't grill or fry any food? I think the issue with this is the type of oils you use. Anyway. Mm. Nothing about this sits well at all.

I also think that during blending, the food gets oxidized in the blender and loosess it's anti oxidant property a lot.

I agree in regards to fruit juice. However, in regards to protein smoothies with meal replacement powders, they are more easily digestible. As long as the shake is low carb and low sugar, I think it is fine to have a protein and spirulina smoothie. He is negating the fact that digestion takes a lot of energy. In the liquid form the nutrients are more digestible.

Does this also apply to Flax and chia seeds? I have seen studies that suggest that the human body does not absorb them very much unless they are ground.

Hmmm. I don't do much jucing of fruits. I do use the vitamix with something like:
1/2 bunch of Kale
1/2 bunch of mustard greens
1/4 lemon with rind
1 or 2 thumb sized pieces of tumeric root
1 or 2 thumb sized pieces of ginger root.
2-5 cloves peeled garlic
1/2 - whole bunch of cilantro
pinch of Kosher salt
fresh ground black pepper.
a couple of jalapeno or thai peppers.
some water.
eh, that was today's 'recipe'.
Heh, sometimes the mix requires some chewing.
I live alone, and when I'm busy and don't have time to cook, this works as a great way to get those greens in me before they wilt too much.
Very little sugar intake. Gotta have some quality dark chocolate once in a while. I quit most sugar after seeing Dr. Robert's The Bitter Truth 10+ yrs. ago.
No alcohol anymore. Unless it's a really good wine and I'm cooking for friends.
YMMV
