My dads old 1997 Toyota hilux 2.4 diesel ticked over to 300k a few days ago, he bought it new and I grew up with it being the family car, I learned to drive in it too so it’s really great it’s still going strong as it means a lot to all of us, guess they really are as reliable as they say!

Bought a Ford Focus Lx 1.6 2004 model as my daily car on 2015 with 70k mileage sold the vehicle this year January with 140k mileage. Had no problems at all. Serviced oil change every 6 months and full service every year.

I bought a brand new VW Passat 2.0 back in 2014 - serviced every 18k miles and doing about 35k miles a year. Absolutely no issues and the car got better the more miles I did. I was still on original brake pads at 120k miles!!

Unfortunately, the car was written off while parked up at work in 2019 - I’m still upset about it as I really wanted to absolutely, see what I could get the mileage to. I did buy a new Passat, but only up to 25k miles because of COVID. God I miss my 14 plate

I got my brand new Mazda6 diesel in HK in mid-2016, and has done more than 113k km on the clock, and while I got a slightly worsening fuel economy after spending more time in city and congested traffic, I am going to stick with this car for a long long time.

Looking after it is the only way to make sure it’s dependable. Oil is changed every 10k km or so, transmission fluid every 50k km, brake fluid every 40k km, and check the DPF/ERG every 50k-60k km, that should leave it plenty of life there

My BMW 118D on a 09 plate is on 129, 700 miles and engine is fine as has regular oil changes and only slight wear of drivers bolster, must admit when I change it next year for a BMW hybrid will look for lower only as BMW only warranty their batteries unto 100, 000

Two friends

One bought a 2014 Nissan Murano with 109, 000 miles from a Nissan dealer. They said it was certified and in excellent condition and payments would be $260 a month for 36 months after she put $1500 down

By her third oil change the same Nissan dealership advised her she needed $5, 000 in repairs

My other friend bought a good condition 2007 Toyota Camry with 133, 000 miles for $2400 cash from a private seller after her mechanic checked it and invested another $1500 in repairs to bring up to excellent condition, and it runs fantastic

Which would you prefer?

Hey, stumbled on your channel while researching high mileage cars, surprisingly. Nice content and a few good points well made. I'm looking at buying a new (used) car and my budget is around 8k. I can go one of two ways - Little Toyota Aygo or similar *or* possibly buying a high mileage (80k +/-) 2013ish Volkswagen CC diesel (140) . I probably won't be doing more than 5k miles a year so don't foresee having to shell out thousands on maintenance (provided the car I buy has service history). Also, I'm aware I'm going top need to blast it down the motorway periodically to clear the DPF. It's the classic head vs heart dilemma. I love the CC but am unsure about it's reliability and possible maintenance costs, but I'd enjoy driving it. The town car would be nothing more than a way to get from A - B ie no sentimental experience. What would you do and have you had any exposure to the CC and it's potential issues?

2007 opel /vauxhall vivaro 2.0cdti, 413k and I've just changed the timing chain for the first time. Preventative maintenance helps. Still on everything original such as clutch gearbox etc etc.
