Recreating COLUMBO's Car in 1/43 Scale | Fun DIY

Today I'll be recreating television's famous Detective Lt. COLUMBO's Car, in 1/43rd scale. I start by using a die-cast model of a Peugeot 403 Cabrio from Atlas (aka Norev) as a starting point. One more thing (LOL!), Pedal2Metal: Great job on weathering the Peugeot! When I was a kid and then when I was a pre-teen, I used to watch that show. Mr Columbo used to annoy me (LOL!) but he was great at solving crimes. I like that you use your techniques on various scales.

Wear and tear is difficult to simulate, I reckon you did a fine job.

Nice job fella but the panel lines are to black around the doors/trunk/hood, etc. I suggest you use a medium dark wash from grey paint and white spirit (test that the white spirit does not melt/soften the car colour) brush the whole car and the wash will run in gaps, once dry, moisten a cloth and gently rub the bodywork to remove excess wash, the wash will be left in the panel gaps as a very thin line and will look more realistic, then a very thin coat of semi gloss varnish to seal it. Do all this work before building it all up, then weather it and then give it another coat of semi gloss/matt or pure gloss varnish depending on what you are working on. The chrome bumpers, to dull them off, paint with either semi gloss or matt varnish. We never stop learning do we and I hope this helps you a little and keep up the good work, lovely job.

Love your work. I'm a fan of Columbo too, I've got all 7 seasons plus all the Columbo movies on dvd, good stuff. I think I'm going to try to make my own Columbo car. Oldies.com has all the dvds plus Columbo t-shirts if your interested.

Columbo is my favorite show to watch still and your car depicts his car exact. However I would of made the interior just a little more dirtier.

Pretty sure he had a '63, so you'll need rear view mirrors on the front fenders.

I've heard of this show but I've never seen it, especially not an American detective driving around in a French car! Peugeots are nice, but I never thought that they were very common here in the US!

Love this show.
If another actor would play Colombo who would that be?
Colombo loved his car because its a classic.
Why studios use more than one car is simple to tell.
In case one will break down but also in some episodes(make a perfect murder) Colombo crashes in to police cars.
In some episode the car has a dent in the left door.
Some episodes with the top on has a light color top just like the seats etc.
Sometimes this top is in very bad shape and condition

I'm impressed with your ideas and videos. But you should check out Andy's Hobby Headquarters page. He gives greast tips on weathering that I think would really help you. He builds models, mainly tanks. But please keep doing movie and tv show cars.
