What I Wore to my Wedding

I do not regret investing in my parka over my wedding dress. Our parka’s and my husband’s hat were made by @bilodeaucanada5400 , a family owned company in northern quebec. Bilodeau purchases their fur from trappers across Canada- and in creating commercially available clothing using legally and ethically sourced fur- they are supporting land-based economies that allow local trappers I know here in the Yukon and across Canada earn a living off the land using traditional knowledge.
The mukluks were made by Karrie Brown of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nation. The moosehide and rabbit fur came from her grandparents’ trapline and her grandmother taught her to sew and bead these incredible living works of art.
My beaded hair piece was made by Yukon Prize winning artist @kaylynbakerdesigns Kayln Baker. She is Northern Tuchone and Tlingit. Her beading is a form of storytelling and a way to pass along traditions and knowledge to future generations.

That’s great. You spent your money on stuff you’ll actually use that is also beautiful and made by local artists. Unheard of these days. I’m impressed.

Thank you for sharing, as an indigenous woman my heart is singing from the authentic way of appreciating local cultures and buying sustainable items to add touches of beauty to your day. These additions will bring you decades of use as they are timeless.

I’m getting emotional over the beauty of those pieces! My parents have mukluks which were gifted to them during their early years of marriage - they currently hang beside the fireplace in their cabin.

Beautiful and so authentic, the way a marriage should be celebrated. Its not about the luxury and the frills, the real luxury is the love you share with someone and what brings you together🤍✝️

Every time you use those pieces again (and they will last a lifetime) you’ll be reminded of your lifelong love. This is so beautiful

Your clothes look beautiful- but the most beautiful thing I’ve seen in any of the photos is how genuine your smile is

I recently learned to always look for the artist's name when buying indigenous beadwork. If it just says "made in canada" it's likely from a factory.
Beautiful items btw, and congratulations!

I came to the comments expecting to see outrage over real skin and fur pieces, but what I found was compliments about sustainability and admiration for the beautiful pieces. I want to commend you for your sustainable resourcing and to the commenters for being so positive.

This is how you wear Indigenous and not misappropriate. I love you you choose to support native artists.

This is so beautiful, culture is more tied to the land than people realise. If you move somewhere it’s your job to adhere and respect that culture while bringing yours to share aswell

This is one of the most beautiful weddings I have ever seen. And truly “unique, ” without trying too hard.

God bless your union!
