This is what my farm costs monthly

Note: this is what my farm costs me MONTHLY right now. It does not include what I have paid off in cash, like the structure. That's why I say 'monthly' in the title before someone posts that. These are the ongoing costs.

You can live in a 10 x 16 shed that costs $3,500 and do this as well! Massive barn centers are required - it was my preference as an entrepreneur hoping to run many different businesses in my lifetime.

My favorite part was when she quickly and casually glossed over the fact she paid all cash for the structure and therefore does not have a mortgage or construction loan.

I need yall to understand something. As a country boy she doesn't have a farm. She has 6.74 acres. She roughly had to have a shit ton of cash on hand. It is not as manageable as it seems and it cost money a lot of money to maintain whether you pay someone or do it yourself

My local small farmer told me he could continuously feed 150 people. Can you imagine if we had a small farm nearby every 150 people? It would be paradise.

In 1999 I purchased 26.5 acres, 2 acres outright. I worked 2, and sometimes 3, jobs … 1 full time and filled in the gaps with the others. I mortgaged my house to one of the paid acres, took me 13 years to pay off the land mortgage, then another three years to pay off the house mortgage. Now I only have annual taxes, utilities, and insurance (plus regular stuff like food & clothes) to worry about, so I’m semi retired now, going down at my full time job to part time, working only two 12.5 hr shifts a week to keep my insurance, 403k, and pension. It was hard work those 16 years, not only working multiple jobs, but also building up my farm, but so worth it. Got another 10 years before I qualify for full retirement, but life is good 👍 it can be done, just gotta make your plans, put your nose to the grindstone, and don’t give up even when you hit those snags and brick walls, just power thru. God Bless

You’re on to something, I did the same thing. I left the city and moved upstate NY to a rural area and have never been happier. 😊

When the government talks about farmers they are talking about big farmers . Small farms suffer and rarely get help from the government. Most of the government handouts go to farms that are like corporations! I hope you succeed! ❤ We also bought a 6 acres and built our home there and are planning on mainly making ourselves self sufficient.

I bought a cute 2-bed/2-bath townhome in small town rural France (🇫🇷 2 hours by train to Paris) for all cash and my other monthly payments are way lower, only about $350/month max… High speed internet costs 29 euros a month and that’s a splurge. It also includes my cell phone! My electric, gas, and water are running me only about $100/month even in the winter! My annual taxes are way less and insurance is like 250 euros/year. If I could have financed the purchase, interest rates are only 3% now and trending down. I do speak some French. I get by pretty well and live there part time in a medieval town dedicated to writing and writers. My home is in the historic center. It cost under 100K usd. But good luck to you, you’re smarter than most! 😊

She makes it sound so simple, I just think this is true. I have been trying to find acres and a farm .they houses are usually falling apart, and most of the time, so are the structures and land is expensive. Not sure how she did this in upstate NY

I really like the setup though. Anyplace would be cheap if you paid off 30% of the land and the whole structure paid and clear though

This a really fantastic setup that you have created. I am really impressed, going to emulate quite a few things you have going on here!

Congrats. You are so very young (and ultra smart and pretty) to have worked this out. Please help others in your country do the same. ❤❤❤

Ok but how much were all the structures? Most people don’t have the capital to make this happen land or not. Saying this as someone who is currently farming in a town house backyard and is working to farm 1.25 acres elsewhere. I think it’s worth doing but it’s def not super attainable/easy/cheap.

Get a bunch of solar panels and install a covered car port & put them on your roof. Don't go with any of the companies that "sell solar" you could power that whole property, probably reduce your propane usage dramatically(i.e. only use it for stove) i would say for around 10k you could basically be net zero.

Reach out if you have any questions

Rents in Manhattan are 3900 to 6000 per month. One or two bedroom apartments.
