The Inpatient Detox and Treatment for Opioid Addiction at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center's pediatric unit is a voluntary medical detox and withdrawal symptom management program with linkage to further outpatient care. Patients will be started on a medication called Suboxone to decrease symptoms of withdrawal. Suboxone is a film that can be dissolved under the tongue that is a combination of Naloxone and Buprenorphine. When taken as prescribed, Suboxone can help with opioid cravings and withdrawal. This medication, along with other medications available as needed, are used to help manage withdrawal symptoms while in the hospital and after discharge. Though you can expect some discomfort, most patients say that getting through withdrawal is much easier on medications than it would be at home.

We are a facility available 24/7/365. For immediate assistance, patients, families or referral physicians can call to speak to the medical team at 408-885-5255 at anytime. For general inquiries and to determine if inpatient or outpatient treatment is right for you, please call 408-272-6518 during regular business hours.

Patients are typically admitted to the unit for approximately 24-48 hours to manage withdrawal symptoms and stabilize on Suboxone. The hospital is the start of your journey. Upon discharge, we will prescribe medication and connect patients with outpatient services including a therapist and substance use treatment physicians. Some patients choose to go to residential treatment programs.

Patients will usually have a room to themselves for comfort. We do allow and encourage the patient to bring along one support person (18+) with them who can help support them.
