Worked on a project with a buddy once and it literally was

“So I made this piece of code back in 2014, don’t even fucking remember what it does but I think it’s good.” Mf it was a print script that just constantly put the words “Ur gay” on the screen.

Early 2000s dev work was more fun and unhinged, the people that actually read the code were usally just some devs that are close together, they banter through code and no one higher up cared what was written as long as it worked as intended.

This kind of in-code conversation used to be common before the days of distributed source control.

Back then, only one developer could work on a file at a time to avoid conflicts so they would leave notes and questions for the next developer to pick up on.

Collaborative tools like Confluence and Google Docs didn’t exist then so the comments in code was the way to communicate.
