I think it’s just so it’s easier for us to differentiate the instant transmission from when characters just move really fast, since they animate those similarly

i think it’s mostly a stylistic choice to have goku use the forehead touch. one, because it’s a much better indicator that he’s teleporting than just having him vanish (something that is also very often used to show speed) and two, it just looks cool.

Honestly, i think the real biggest weakness is that it doesn't let you teleport to a place, but a person. People don't seem to understand how truly limiting that can actually be.

It's basically the equivalent of squinting to see things better. Squinting doesn't actually do anything. It just feels like you are more focused when you do it.

Touching his forehead must make the technique easier to use. Sensing ki much quicker and teleporting there faster.

It’s also a way for the artists to distinguish to the audience when he’s actually teleporting and not just doing that thing where he moves so fast it’s like he disappeared.

My head canon has been when he touches his head he is simply focusing on whatever person he’s trying to go to’s energy.
