Thank you Mace family because, in the middle of your own grief, you took the time to share this beautiful video with us and by doing it, you’ve acknowledged the grief of those who, like me, never got to meet Max in person, but loved him just the same and will forever be grateful to God for the gift of Max Mace and his music.
The assured promise that you will meet him again soon is a big consolation. In the meantime we pray that God bring strength and peace to you heart while the separation lasts. All of our love to the Mace and the Heritage Singers family. 💕

Max Mace, I have loved you for almost my entire life. I first met you at a concert in Eureka, California in 1977.. I also talked to Jim McDonald and Val, and Bill Truby (a local guy here) that night. It was the best night of my life up to that point, to an 8-year-old. And it's still one of my favorite memories. Heritage Singers influenced my vocals and music for the rest of my life, up until today. Anytime anyone asks me how I learned to arrange vocals, I ALWAYS credit Max and the incredible stable of arrangers he employed over the years. Max, when I heard that you'd passed, I was saddened for a week. You are intrinsic to my childhood and upbringing, as are the rest of the Mace family. Val, Lucy, Greg... (the latter of whom I also met about 2 years later, in Redding, California. He was just a couple of years older than I, and I was so impressed with what he was doing with the sound equipment!) Everyone in the group, from top to bottom, always completely inspired me. Since then, many have remarked that I should have been a member of Heritage Singers. I always reply that if God had planned for that, it would have happened, and that I am so unworthy of the compliment.

I love all of you. Thank you so much for being such a huge part of my life since 1977... when I was 8. Thank you, Max, for so much joy and blessing. Thank you, Lucy, Val, and Greg, for sharing him (and yourselves) with us for all these decades. I love you all, and may God continue to bless your amazing ministry.

P.S. At Redwood Area Campmeeting in July 1980, my dad bought me Val's album "Dreamer" (I must say I had quite the crush.. lol.. just saying..) But it was my absolute favorite album for two years afterward! lol.. I used to come home from school, put on that record, and take my guitar to the living-room couch and 'tune down' the low strings, and play along with (Jeff Wood's?) basslines... then I would fall asleep while doing so.... it was my way of winding down after school, in 6th grade. Such a wonderful memory. Thank you ... all of you ... for that.

P.P.S. Another Heritage Singers bass vocalist was Lee Newman. I moved to his hometown of Crescent City in 1983, just as he'd moved away. I did know his daughter Jenny a little, from Campmeeting. I hope they are all doing well today.

I only knew him when I was young and they were in Oregon but he impacted my life. I ran into him and Lucy at the mall one day and we chatted briefly and he was the same sweet man of God I remembered. I feel so sad for his family but I know they know how blessed they were to have him in their lives. Living his dreams touched so many along his journey. What an incredible reunion he will have one day.

Its very hard coming to grips with Max's passing, but I take comfort in that he suffers no more....I grew up as a young SDA feeding on the music of the Heritage Singers, so much so that I sang with a group named Junior Heritage Singers. Oh yes, the Heritage Singers was and still is my gold standard of talent . May the global ministry continue in honor of Max Mace and his family as well as the group....God bless.

I can say that I improve my singing, listening to Heritage Singers. My sister was made about Heritage Singers and she did buy every records vinyl, when she passed away I tried to get it but my mom gave away to someone else so instead I did make a play list in YouTube. When Frank Sinatra past away I did thank God Max was alive and well at the time. I used to be a choir conductor and I got to put few songs From Heritage Singers. Long time ago the college organized a Choir and I did the test and I was chosen over a lot people including my older sister who has very similar voice, my mom never knew who was talking on the phone, because our voices were very similar. But the College Choir did not pick her. I used to do some solos and we even sing in the radio and won many choir competitions. And I think I learn a lot with Heritage Singers. I am very sad Max is gone, but I am happy because he is with God.
