55 - Hill Excavation Progress, Land Rover Arrives & Fixing Wacker Plate Engine!

Bonjour tout le monde! And welcome back to another week with us! It’s been a busy one. After six weeks of excavating, scooping, and moving soil, the hill behind the barn has noticeably shrunk, while the dam has grown. It’s repetitive work, but as things progressed, we started to see the light at the end of the tunnel, even though there's still at least half of the hill left to clear.
Philippe pushed forward, aiming to get as much done as possible before the rain returned and before he had to make the long drive to Belgium to pick up a new piece of equipment—an old Land Rover repurposed into a pickup. Originally meant for scrap, we decided to give it a second life with the help of a friend who's also a mechanic teacher. He and his students worked on this machine, which will one day be a huge help on the farm. While it still needs some work on the electronics, it’s not a priority right now, so it'll be on the back burner as we tackle more pressing matters.
We also borrowed a wacker plate from our neighbor, and Philippe gave it a good cleaning, getting it prepped and ready for continuing work on the parking lot behind the barns once the hill is fully dug out.
This week brought another milestone for Odin—he added a new word to his expanding vocabulary: Lucie, the name of our cat! Between digging, rain showers, and small tasks around the homestead, we also took a break to head into our town to watch the rally race, which Odin absolutely loved!
